Plant Stands
what are things i can try to grow under a plant light?
i got this neat plant stand with a light over it and im trying to come up with neat things to grow under it indoors. any ideas?
cacti. ha ha. of course it is the Slowest grower of all.
but thing is, you can grow about anything inside. it is not different from outside except you have to move the light every day to keep it close enough. because that is really the whole trick to using lights indoors. it doesn’t even seem to matter what kind of light you use (although bluer spectrums will make more bushy plants and adding redder ones can help during flowering).
my fluorescents are kept about one inch away.
only other consideration about inside is pollination. only some plants need your help though. like tomato or pepper. so if it grows no fruit off it’s flowers then u wil know it needs one flower brushed on the other when pollen is ripe/powdery yellow.
now, what to grow. it is kind of up to you to choose something since the choices are so open. thing is, it’s only Loads of fun if u get something u can use. like food or beauty or whatever.
lettuce is rather traditional and looks nice but you have to like salads. if u do like salad then maybe add radish, carrot or spinach or something.
basil is great to make pizza with tomato sauce. and basil looks pretty and smells good.
for a regular long lasting houseplant i might choose a plant with “variegated” foliage because it is pretty but lasts long instead of shorter lasting color of flowers. although, actually, some plants are constantly putting off flowers instead of just seasonally.
catnip if u had a cat. or citrenella if u had mosquito problem.
so, yah, i reccomend basil so u can make pizza and if it is fun then grow tomatoes too so to better continue making pizza.
and maybe a salad to go with the pizza.
